There are lots of questions retirees or those about to retire have and most concern having enough money to last as long as they do!
It’s a real concern.
US News & World Report recently published an article on retirement listing:
5 ways to identify your best post-retirement job plan.
They suggest that you should identify:
- What do you look forward to NOT doing in retirement?
- Why do you want to work after retirement?
- What work schedule would be ideal?
- What activities do you really want to include in your retirement – creative, active lifestyle, volunteering, learning new skills?
- What type of people do you want to include in your life, i.e. children, seniors, young adults?
The Street, an online magazine, just posted a good article called Retirement Reboot: Great Ways To Boost Income In Your Golden Years. It’s totally worth reading so click on that title and see what you think!
6 Ways to Find More Money
I just read this article in Money Talks News and I’m sharing the link. It made me feel much better about my own situation and I hope it helps you, too.
The point is that there are options. If you’re still employed, you can (1) pay down your debt and stay debt free; (2) ask for a raise, (3) spend less.
Speaking of spending less…there’s a post on a website that I’ve found with some excellent suggestions. The blog is called Retirement – Only the beginning and the post is 10 Tips to Stretch Your Retirement Savings. Check it out…you’ll be pleased.
If you’re already retired make a plan to spend down debt and spend less. Another option (4) get a part time job and even better than that you should research (5) learn new skills or update the skills you already have.
For example, I’ve owned two businesses. One of them was an executive suites where my clients brought their clerical work to me. So I was highly skilled in computer applications for word processing, data entry, bookkeeping, etc.
I wanted to brush up on those skills and I discovered that I could do just that at no cost at all at my local library! Perfect! These are skills that I can easily upgrade.
How could I use knowledge and skills I already have?
I can apply for temporary work. Nearly every profession has a need for temp workers. Employment agencies are constantly looking for temporary workers for either office based positions or skilled trades workers.
Personally, I could freelance. I’ve freelanced in the past. But I could also register with employment agencies, school districts, and government offices, etc. to work as a substitute administrative assistant. I still might do that but at the moment it’s all about my newest passion…writing for money!
Freelancers Union is a support group for freelance workers regardless of their fields. It’s a useful resource if that’s the road you’d like to take.
Start a Blog
I’ve had a couple of blogs in the past but mostly just for fun. I love to write and it’s been a wonderful outlet for me.
As luck would have it, I discovered that I could hone my writing skills by learning (6) affiliate marketing. After much research, I chose to learn the business through Wealthy Affiliate. It has been immensely rewarding. The most fun I’ve had in a long time and a sure path to financial freedom.
You need to do what’s right for you. Now’s the time to get those retirement ducks in a row! That’s what I’m doing!
Please share your thoughts with me and if you enjoyed this post, I’d love it if you’d share it on Facebook, Google+, Twitter, etc.
