Extra Income Opportunities To Explore

cashEven if you’ve decided on a post-retirement career and are working toward that goal, it’s often necessary to generate a little extra income as a backup or until your career takes off.

When I decided to become a member of  Wealthy Affiliate (best move I’ve ever made), I knew that it would take dedication and time to create a full-time income.  Because anything worth doing is worth taking the time to do it well. But that doesn’t alter the fact that we do need an income while working toward a career goal.

There are work from home resources that pay daily, weekly or monthly.  Many of them are home based using your computer or phone but some involve performing the assignment at an outside location rather than at your home.

Although this list isn’t definitive by any means, I’m posting links to a couple of opportunities in each category that might be of interest to you.  If you should find any of these falling short, please let me know.

Short Tasks or Assignments

Field Agent is a market research company that collects data and information from their agents via smartphone.  You download the app and at any time, check to see what audits, surveys, etc. are offered. If want an assignment listed you reserve it. You have two hours to complete the assignment and when you do, your pay is deposited into your PayPal account very quickly.

Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) describes their business this way: “We give businesses and developers access to an on-demand scalable workforce. Workers select from thousands of tasks and work whenever it’s convenient.”   The MTurk Introduction clearly shows how this works and gives good examples of the HITS (Human Intelligence Tasks) available.

Transcription Jobs

TranscribeMe! has an online training program and excellent support.  Transcribers will work with either audio or video assignments and receive weekly pay through PayPal.

Data Collection and Surveys

phone operatorWestat  This company performs data collection in the fields of  health, education, information systems, social policy and transportation.   Some of the work is conducted via phone while other assignments are performed in the field.  The link I’ve provided has an excellent short video with more information.

Vocalabs As a Survey Administrator you will work from home doing customer satisfaction surveys. No sales or cold calling so that’s a plus, in my opinion.

Miscellaneous Opportunities

Nice Talk Tutor is a tutoring site for Chinese students wanting to practice speaking English. You must be proficient in the English language but you don’t need to know Chinese.  You are paid $10 per hour, I believe, and through your PayPal account.

Fiverr   “Fiverr is a global online marketplace offering tasks and services, beginning at a cost of $5 per job performed, from which it gets its name.” (Source: Wikipedia)

Well, that’s the best description of this unique company.  If you have a particular skill or expertise you can register as a vendor. Or if you need a logo designed or a blogpost written or any number of tasks that you don’t want to or can’t do, there’s bound to be someone on Fiverr who will do it for you for $5.

So that’s a start.

I will be posting these links and others on a “Links” page on this blog.  As I find other resources I’ll add them.

Please let me know if any of these extra income opportunities work for you. I’d be grateful, also, if  you’d share those that don’t work and why.

In the meantime, if you haven’t explored the possibility of starting your own online business, I highly recommend that you check out Wealthy Affiliate.

I hope you enjoyed this post and sincerely hope that it will be useful for you.

This is a great list of side hustles! More and more people are finding ways to earn a little extra on the side whilst still maintaining a full-time job and even a family!

Thanks, Sophie! That’s my goal and although my focus is on finding fulfilling work after retiring, it’s totally suited to anyone who is looking for a side hustle.
